Language Teaching in the 21st Century

Under the umbrella title “Language Teaching in the 21st Century,” Dr. Patricia Pashby facilitated a series of seven workshops and ten individual mentoring sessions for faculty teaching English or other language courses in Pakistan as part of AIPS’ Junior Faculty Training and Exchange Program.  Sessions took place between December 5th and December 20th, 2018 at the University of Education, Lahore campus. A total of 38 participants attended one or more of the sessions.  Dr. Pashby took a “hands-on” approach to teaching to support and demonstrate her goal of encouraging interactive, student-centered learning.  Themes of “action research” conducted by teachers, principles of language learning, and teaching and motivation in language learning were wove into the curricula.  In addition to leading sessions, Dr. Pashby co-facilitated a session on “Student Centric Learning” at the First Annual International Conference on English Literature, Linguistics and Teaching at the University of Education, Lahore and presented a keynote titled “Revisiting Motivation in Language Learning.”
