Islamabad Office

Atufa Qazi
AIPS-Pakistan Assistant Director

Atufa Qazi is the Assistant Director for the AIPS Pakistan Office . In this role, she looks into the accounting and finance - bookkeeping, preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, admin and program budgeting, program execution and reporting. Liaison with Madison office for grant reporting cycle for compliance and running Pakistan's office administration structure. Atufa graduated from Oxford Brooks University with BSc in Accounting and Finance and is a Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA) with five years experience of audit and consultancy in PriceWaterHouseCooper (PwC) Pakistan.

Laura Hammond
AIPS-US Director

Laura Hammond has been working at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 2003. She is the U.S. Director of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Founding Director of the Language Program Office at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the International Division in 2020. She has over twenty years of experience administering international and educational programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Her career working with South Asia programs at UW started with the South Asia Summer Language Institute (SASLI) in 2003, and she began working with AIPS in 2006 and became the U.S. Director in 2010. In addition to her work with AIPS and SASLI, Laura has been the US Director for the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) from 2008-2019.
Laura was instrumental in bringing in new international/language programs to UW. In 2012, she became the Executive Director for Project Global Officer (PGO) and (in 2016) and became the Administrative Director for the South Asian Flagship Languages Initiative (SAFLI), followed by adding to her directorship the Indonesian Flagship Language Initiative (IFLI) in 2018 and the Turkish Flagship Language Initiative (TURFLI) in 2020. In 2021, she became the Principal Investigator for IFLI, SAFLI, TURFLI and PGO projects at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Due to the strength of these programs, Ms. Hammond was selected by the Dean of the International Division to Direct the Language Program Office in 2020, and in April of 2020, she received the UW Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Leadership and was bestowed with the title of Distinguished Administrative Program Specialist in November 2020.

Paige Hendricks
AIPS-US Project Manager


As Project Manager for AIPS, Paige processes fellowship applications, develops monitoring and evaluation plans, prepares program reports, and assists with grant writing. Paige graduated from UW-La Crosse with an MSEd in Student Affairs Administration (2019) and a BS in Sociology (2011). During undergrad, Paige studied in Galway, Ireland, and in graduate school, she held various internships working with the international student population and with students preparing for education abroad.
