Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

CAORC Alumni Ambassador Talk with Anita M. Weiss

CAORC will host a webinar on October 27 at 12:00 pm ET featuring Multi-Country Research Fellowship Alumnus Anita M. Weiss. Anita is currently a Professor of International and Global Studies and the AIPS trustee for the University of Oregon. The webinar will explore her experience on an AIPS-affiliated CAORC Multi-Country Research Fellowship, and how the fellowship helped influence her career researching Muslim women's rights.

New AIPS Membership Year Starting!

If you haven't already done so, consider renewing your AIPS individual membership for the next academic year. 2022-23 memberships started with the new member year on October 1st. AIPS Fall Election Results

AIPS is happy to announce the recent election results for our Executive Committee!
Dr. Iftikhar Dadi (Cornell University) has been elected the next AIPS Vice-President. Drs. Sanaa Riaz (MSU Denver) and Daniel Majchrowicz (Northwestern University) have both been re-elected to the Executive Committee as At-Large Members. The three-year terms of these offices will begin on October 1st, 2022. Thank you to the Nominating Committee for organizing the elections and to these elected officers for their willingness to serve AIPS.

Call for Papers: The Pakistan Conference: 75 Years of Independence

The South Asia Insitute at Harvard University will be hosting "The Pakistan Conference: 75 Years of Independence" on November 29th - 30th, 2022. The organizers are seeking abstracts for both individual papers and panel proposals on a range of topics covering the Independence movement and its enduring legacies. Read the full Call for Papers here. Submissions must be received by September 30th, 2022. AIPS is delighted to serve as a co-sponsor of this event. 

Short-Term Research Grant Awardee - Sundas Amer

Sundas Amer (PhD Candidate, University of Texas at Austin) was a 2020 AIPS Short-Term Research Grant awardee and conducted research in Pakistan for two months. Read the final report and more here.
