Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

AIPS Book Prize

AIPS Book Prize 2020 Announcement. Deadline: January 10, 2020

The deadline is quickly approaching! AIPS is soliciting books (single authored monographs, no edited volumes) published during the last three years, or nearly published books (galleys must be available) for the annual AIPS Book Prize.  Please note that this is an academic book prize (literary fiction/short stories are not appropriate for this prize), and only English language books are eligible at this time.  The award recipient will receive a monetary prize from AIPS ($1,000).

2020 Pakistan Lecture Series

Congratulations to Prof. Salima Hashmi who was chosen to participate in the 2020 AIPS Pakistan Lecture Series! This program is designed to facilitate the academic exchange between Pakistani and US Scholars by inviting a Pakistani scholar to deliver a lecture series at several US institutions relating to Pakistan studies.

Bloomsbury Pakistan is a research resource center dedicated to the discussion of topics of politics, culture, and history in Pakistan and the wider region. Books reviewed include AIPS President, Farhat Haq's 'Sharia and the State in Pakistan: Blasphemy Politics' and AIPS Member, Tariq Rahman's 'Interpretations of Jihad in South Asia: An Intellectual History'.
