Dr. Esha Niyogi De has published a new, single-authored monograph, Women's Transborder Cinema: Authorship, Stardom, and Filmic Labor in South Asia, available on University of Illinois Press' website.
Francesca Chubb-Confer (visiting assistant professor at Whitman College) published an article, “Iqbal’s Falcons and Nightingales: Metaphor, Modernity, and the Poetics of Islam in South Asia,” for a special issue of the International Journal of Islam in Asia. Chubb-Confer’s article analyzes Persian and Urdu ghazal poetry by Muhammad Iqbal to demonstrate how particular metaphors for selfhood express the uncertainties Muslim communities experienced regarding the legacies of tradition and the new demands of late-colonial modernity.
