Please join us in welcoming Dr. Noman Baig as the new AIPS-Pakistan Director! Next month, he will begin his appointment at the AIPS Islamabad office.

Dr. Noman Baig is a cultural anthropologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on exploring the cultural dynamics of exchange in postcolonial bazaars, with a central aim of illuminating the mythic-temporal world of the unseen as a paradigmatic reality in ethical self-formation. As one of the founding faculty members at Habib University in Karachi, he has served as an Associate Professor of Comparative Humanities and Social Development & Policy. His teaching portfolio reflects an eclectic range of courses, from the anthropology of trade to Islamic aesthetics and design.

His recent academic interests encompass classical Persian poetry and Arabic philosophy, with the aim of outlining a spiritual anthropology that sheds light on the genealogies of the self. He is currently writing a book-length manuscript titled "Cultures of Greed: Commerce and Cosmology in Pakistan." He has authored articles in multiple publications, including Cultural Anthropology, Journal of Cultural Economy, Pakistan Perspective, International Journal of Asia Pacific Studies, the Maydan, and Hazine.
