University of Michigan - Faculty in Modern Central Asian Studies

The University of Michigan welcomes applications for a permanent faculty (tenure-track or tenured) position in modern Central Asian studies, to begin September 2011. Rank is open; this is a university year appointment. The search emphasizes disciplinary expertise in the social sciences, but will consider candidates in any field other than History (although candidates using historical approaches to research are welcome to apply). The university seeks scholars with a deep contextual knowledge of the largely Islamic societies, cultures, and states of Central Eurasia. Candidates should have knowledge of relevant areas in the former Soviet Union, northwestern China (Xinjiang), Afghanistan, or nearby regions. The successful candidate will be expected to teach broadly about Central Asia at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants should submit a letter of interest with CV, statement of current and future research plans, statement of teaching philosophy and experience, evidence of teaching excellence and short description of proposed courses, brief writing sample, and three letters of reference to: Central Asia Search Committee, International Institute, 1080 S. Center for South Asia Studies, University of California, Berkeley - Program & Publications Assistant

The Administrative and Publications Assistant of the CSAS has chief responsibility for all aspects of program logistics and office and administrative management, of an organized research unit, the Center for South Asia Studies, as well as for processing book orders, maintaining inventory, and tracking sales of the CSAS publications.

The Administrative and Publications Assistant of the CSAS works with faculty and students affiliated with the CSAS, other departments, student organizations, and ORUs on the Berkeley campus, and community members and current and potential donors to the CSAS. This position is essential to ensuring that our programs are properly implemented and managed, the Center is run well on a day to day basis, and our publications (our key source of revenue) are managed, tracked, and sold.

University of California, Berkeley - Urdu Lecturer

The Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for appointment as a full-time lecturer in Urdu. The appointment will begin on 7/1/2010. The appointee will be required to teach Urdu at all levels. An M.A. or Ph.D. degree in an appropriate field is required. The salary will be commensurate with teaching experience.
