Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

AIPS Reception - In Memory of Prof. Muhammad Umar Memon

At this year's Annual Conference on South Asia in Madison, WI, AIPS hosted a reception, organized by Zahra Sabri, in memory of Professor Muhammad Umar Memon (1939-2018). 2020 Pakistan Lecture Series

Congratulations to Prof. Salima Hashmi who was chosen to participate in the 2020 AIPS Pakistan Lecture Series! This program is designed to facilitate the academic exchange between Pakistani and US Scholars by inviting a Pakistani scholar to deliver a lecture series at several US institutions relating to Pakistan studies.

Bloomsbury Pakistan Book Reviews

Bloomsbury Pakistan recently published book reviews for 7 books related to Pakistan studies in 2019. Bloomsbury Pakistan is a research resource center dedicated to the discussion of topics of politics, culture, and history in Pakistan and the wider region. Books reviewed include AIPS President, Farhat Haq's 'Sharia and the State in Pakistan: Blasphemy Politics' and AIPS Member, Tariq Rahman's 'Interpretations of Jihad in South Asia: An Intellectual History'.

Digital Humanities Workshop

Following her involvement in Matt Cook's Digital Humanities workshop and faculty exchange, Ayesha Akram created her own Digital Humanities workshop series consisting of three separate workshops to further spread the knowledge and discipline of Digital Humanities curriculum and education. The first two workshops, titled "Training Workshop and Hands-on Tutorial on DH Tools, Parts 1 & 2," were presented to participants from several university campuses across Pakistan.

The Duke-NCCU Digital Humanities Fellows Program website was recently updated to feature blog posts about the Digital Humanities workshop and faculty exchange program led by Dr. Matthew A. Cook. Part 1 of the workshop series brought several Duke-NCCU DH alumni to Pakistan to work with 12 Pakistani junior faculty in the development of digital humanities skills.
